Sundown Marathon 2012: The story unfolds

Sundown.

EFR 4 (Andy), EFR 7 (Shuhid) and EFR 13 (Nabil) were the only EFRs joined Sundown Marathon 2012 held in Singapore. They came all the way from KL riding Shuhid's White Knight, her white City's nickname.
On the morning of 26/5/2012, the trio initially decided to meet at Menara Milenium, the usual meeting point at around 7am before starting off the long journey south. Tentatively, EFR 7 had scheduled the itinerary and by 10am they were supposed to be in JPO happily shopping. However, the departure was delayed because.... unfortunately for EFR 4, he had to finish up his account for his boss to review and EFR 13 being late to the meeting point. At around 10am, they departed after each of them having capati in Ali Maju, the favourite EY-ians hangout place.

By 2pm, they arrived in JPO. Each of them having enjoyable time shopping there especially for EFR 7 until 5.30pm. EFR 7 bought new running shoes for Sundown! woot woot! At 7pm, they drove to Link 2 Tuas to enter Singapore.

And so, by 8pm they reached the hostel 5footway.inn nearby Sultan Mosque which is a very strategic place for runners. It is in a very walking distance to the event place. The hostel is very new, and the beds and comforters are "oh-my-god-they-are-so-comfy".

9pm++ they were up and ready at the starting event place in Nicoll highway field. When they arrived there, the EFRs were amazed at the number of participants. What amazed EFR 13 and EFR 4 more is because there were a lot of youngsters. Looks like lots of 'cleansing eyes' activities for them. Hehe. Afterall, it was Saturday night and Sundown Marathon is usually the biggest running event in Singapore.

When the clock hit 10.30pm, the biggest running event in Singapore for 2012 and the best running event so far for the EFRs began. And so they ran....ran....cleansing eyes....ran.....ran. It was reported that there were 12k runners for 10km category alone. Imagine the crowded and narrow running path for the runners. But heck, all the EFRs had an enjoyable and good run especially for EFR 4. Unfortunately for EFR 7, she suffered pain in her ankle and foot during the last few kms which affected her run badly. EFR 4 claimed he was not fit for the race (due to hectic work and some unhealthy 'puffs' during the week) but overall he was satisfied with the race. Meanwhile, EFR 13 believed he had a good 1st 5km run which he pushed all the way for this run.

They crossed the finish line and more fun started right after because they were amazed yet again at the number of free entitlements and benefits for runners at least, this is what the EFRs thought so. Each of them received a finisher medal, a banana, a bottle of mineral water and a can of 100plus which is plain normal for any race, but they enjoyed free cotton candy, free pop corn and best of all was the free rejuvenating massage by Caucasian masseuses (from Australia maybe). The pain that EFR 7 suffered was reduced after the massage. Refreshing indeed.

Other things that make the night a memorable and happening one are the open movie concept on the field which the runners could hangout and cool down while watching movie and the free photo booth provided. The movie on screen was X-men 1st Class. EFR 4, EFR 7 and EFR 13 chilled there eating, took pictures, and waited for the photo booth pictures of them to be taken until 3am++.

Runners for 21km and 42km category were flagged off at 12.30pm. However, the event was marred by the heavy downpour at around 3am++. The runners for the categories were still need to finish the run. Unfortunately for EFRs, they got stuck there waiting under the tent for the rain to subside because they chilled there too long. Lol. At around 4am, they decided to brave the rain and ran back to hostel. All in all, it was a memorable night for them and for most of 10km runners too. EFRs went back to KL on Sunday afternoon after they had another run of shopping at Orchard Road. Oh, and EFR 4 and EFR 13 bought something for their upcoming run. Hehe.

KL Tower International Day & Night Towerthon Challenge 2012: Event Day

Different set of skills...
Climbing, not running...
More exhaustion rather than muscle soreness...
Double joy?

Climbing and running are non-comparable, but all I can say, we're suffer during the climb but we're having sooooooooo much fun too! This event we're all described as very exciting. It is Night Towerthon Challenge 2012.

Raining in the evening in most of KL areas won't stop all participants to be at the starting place early. EFR 14 is the first to arrive among us. Then only EFR 3 and EFR 8 came joining. The closure of the main entrance to Jalan Raja Chulan due to 'Majlis Shahrudin & Anna' i dunno what, has delayed the arrival of most of other EFRs except for EFR 14 (by LRT..so not affected by traffic condition).

1KM 'hell' of hilly route, has actually successfully scattered the runners/climbers, but at the same time offered the horrible moment for us who didn't have the proper training due to works, works, and works, as an auditor in the peak period. By the time a lot of runners/climbers reached the stairs of KL Tower, I think most of them are 'penat nak mampos' already. Hahaha.

As expected, EFR 1 is the fastest among us with 23mins++. EFR 1 & EFR 4 never stop until the end, good for them. EFR 3 and EFR 14 having a nice time stick together (sama2 semput). 4 of us is in the first batch to be flagged off. EFR 8, being in the 3rd batch, is so far left behind. For EFR 3, this is the first time he visit KL Tower and he did it, climbing.

Here're some snapshots on the day of excitement!

EFR 8 (right) and EFR 3 (picture below) came bit later and
meet EFR 14 (left) at the starting point.

Then we met EFR 4 at the front line.

While waiting for EFR 8, we're having a picture
background-ed by the KL Tower view.

EFR 14

EFR 3

In the lift, going down the KL Tower.

Waiting for EFR 8 for more than 1 hour, due to
lost contact...fuhhhh

waiting n waiting..only to finally find him at his car...
tu pun ktorg sampai keta die dulu...

Finally we decide to take picture of only 4 of us...

EFR 3 took chance to have a pic with
amazing-ly designed car at the expo...

Nice tag for luggage..

See this picture? EFR 3 has been called and warned by marshall
after the timing devide detected his time twice due to multiple chips on his shoe..
Now, he removed all...

It's an interesting moment of the year joining this event. See you at next year's
KL TOWER INTERNATIONAL DAY & NIGHT TOWERTHON CHALLENGE!!!
