Reebok One Challenge 2013: Event Day & Results

Reebok One Challenge was held yesterday 22 September 2013 at Putrajaya. It was 18.95km run with 9 obstacles in between. As per feedback from all the runners who did it, we felt that Reebok One Challenge is the most well organized running event in Malaysia that our runners have been to since 2011 (as EFR team started in 2011).

This time EFR  7, 19 and 31 took part in the run. EFR 19 and EFR 31 managed to get sub 2 hours for their run. EFR 7 who started the race 30 ++ minutes late (due to overslept), still keep on going and continue the race eventhough she had to run the first 9km alone before she met bunch of other runners. For her its better late than never, and never ever give up, just continue to run as running is the passion that we all have in common here.

About the superb organizer, they got plenty water station (some of the runners got “Gatorade Overdose” hahaha); proper medic care with fast service and alert to help injured runners; very friendly, helpful and cheerful volunteers; and the best way to end the run was having a breakfast buffet or we can say brunch meal as the organizer provide Nasi Beriyani, Lamb Chop, Ice Kacang and so on.

It was worth every penny for RM80 registration, as they provide a good service, and all the runners who made it to finish line get a very nice medal and awesome finisher tee. Overall, thumbs up to the organizer, and we will definitely join again next year and hoping for the same level and quality of the event or maybe even better.

The Edge Bursa Malaysia KL Rat Race 2013: EYKL Representatives

Ernst & Young Kuala Lumpur (EYKL) has successfully participated in the charity run organised by The Edge & Bursa Malaysia, KL Rat Race 2013. The event held in front of the Bursa building. The atmosphere is awesome and damn happening!!! We juz can't show to the people who are not there, even if we put all the pictures we have in this post. The happening moment here most probably is due to the participants come in "the corporate team", therefore there are lots of corporate supporters (perhaps they are all allowed to leave the office early for the event), lots of pom pom team, lots of marching bands performing, and lots & lots of crazy things happened there. The sound of unstoppable vuvuzela look-a-like hons also make some noise.

EYKL today sends 2 teams for CEO category and another one is for mixed category.

CEO Race:
Leong May Lee
Robert Yoon

Mixed category:
Muhammad Firdaus
Cheang Keat
Syed Jefrizil Syed Jamal
Shair Ein Lim
Sharreena Kaur

After all, well done to them! Here are some pictures of memories...

Neon Run 2013

Neon Run 2013 was held last Sunday, 24 August 2013 at 6am in Subang Jaya. It was 8km fun run as no timing chip was given. EFR 7 and her bootcamp friends managed to register for the run 5 days before the event day itself as the organizer post it on their Facebook that they still have few slots available after the registration closed two weeks prior to the event.
It was a flat run around the Bandar Sunway area, a small event yet was organized very well. EFR 7 managed to get new PB for her 2nd 8km run with sub 52 minutes, her unofficial clocked time using Endomondo even she suffered knee injury at the 4km of the run. She said, she will definitely join again Neon Run next year.

Viper Challenge 2013

Viper Challenge 2013 held last weekend on 17 and 18th August 2013. It was a 20km run with 20 obstacles along the way. We got EFR representative took part on this Asia Biggest Challenge. EFR 7, EFR 31 and EFR 35 joined as a team under Team Stallenator with their Chief Original Bootcamp gang. It was called Stallenator as they sometimes stalled during bootcamp session and to make it interesting, they changed the tabata protocol to 20 seconds active 60 seconds rest (the real one is only 10 seconds rest). EFR 35 was the captain of the team and she never left her teammates behind, she was walking with one of the teammate who got injured badly and they still managed to complete the run within 4 hours together with EFR 31. As for EFR 7 who run with other teammates completed the run in 3 hours and 20 mins. On the same day, EFR 3 also take part and completed the run within 3 hours and 15 minutes.
All of them compete on the first day itself where the event was poorly organized. There was no water station (only big giant black tank of Syabas pipe water where all the runners need to drink it from the pipe), medical help also was very poor as they don’t have any deep heat cream or spray and medical supplies are not enough. Despite all that, the route and the obstacles was awesome and all the runners seems to enjoy the run.

On the very next day, EFR 25 took part and she said the organizer did lots of improvement after so called “guinea pigs” runners (on the first day) already complained about the event. They got plenty of proper water station, they provide mineral water, 100plus, bananas and ice cream where none was provided in the first day itself. EFR 25 also managed to complete within 4 hours with her teammates. We hope next year they will provided a better organize event and makes all the runners happy as we pay a lot for this event. Some maybe paid for RM99 for early bird, but some of us paid RM173, so we do expect better organizer for the run with that sum of money.

Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2013: Postponement

After there was a news spread regarding SCKLM'13 making way into The Malaysia Book Of Records as to be the largest participation in a marathon, we need to accept the fact that the event need to be postponed.

On 26 June 2013, Wednesday night, about 3 days before the event:

Around 10.30am of 27 June 2013 (Thursday), posted on their website:

"Organisers announce new date, 29 September 2013

The organisers of Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2013 officially made the decision today to postpone the Marathon that was initially scheduled for 30 June 2013 in the interest of public health. The decision was made with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, co-organiser Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur and title sponsor, Standard Chartered Bank.

After discussions with the local authorities including Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), Department of Environment (DOE) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the organisers and partners of the event came to a difficult decision to postpone the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2013 to 29 September 2013.

YB Khairy Jamaluddin, the Minister of Youth and Sports has concurred with the decision to postpone the event due to the current haze situation, given the potential detrimental health hazards posed to more than 33,000 participants of the Marathon.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor, YBhg Datuk Seri Haji Ahmad Phesal Talib reinforced the decision to set the Marathon to a more conducive time and date due to the unexpected circumstance. "The Standard Chartered KL Marathon is a key event for Kuala Lumpur, and I'm supportive of it being held in better weather condition. We want the participants to enjoy their run along the streets of Kuala Lumpur," he added.

Rainer Biemans, the Project Director of Standard Chartered KL Marathon further explained why such a tough decision was made, "The main factor of the postponement is due to the haze situation in the city. The Air Pollutant Index (API) which scaled to a hazardous level earlier in the week is yet to show strong improvement. We regret any inconveniences caused but we place our runners' health and safety above all else. The team worked very hard to get everything in place and we share the runners' disappointment. With a new date to look forward to, we hope that all runners will take this opportunity to continue training and be even more mentally prepared to run and finish a good race. We look forward to seeing all of you in September."

Title sponsor, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Osman Morad supported the decision and said, "As much as we would like to proceed with the Marathon, we will not compromise on public health. We have rescheduled the Marathon based on the city's calendar and on the advice of the authorities. I look forward to it taking place in September with keen anticipation."

Race Entry Pack Collection will however proceed as scheduled on 27 to 29 June at PWTC for runners residing in W.P. Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. For runners that are not from W.P. Kuala Lumpur and Selangor may collect their race-entry packs on the week leading to 29 September where the organisers will set up a small scale Race Entry Pack Collection only for these outstation and overseas runners.

Organisers encourage participants to regularly visit the Standard Chartered KL Marathon official website at www.kl-marathon.com and facebook.com/scklmarathon for updates."

..and the Key Power Malaysia effectively changed their event's date to 3rd  of November. This event initially scheduled on 29 September 2013, and Key Power Malaysia planned to set up their roadshow on the Standard Chartered race kit collection day itself.

This scenario, however, received mixed responses from the registered runners. Some overseas runners has already booked their accommodation, travel ticket and so on. We believe that it is really hard for the organiser to come out with this decision, but they have considered the best for the sake of runners' health and safety. However, we also believe and hope that the organiser will carry out the best solutions for the problems faced by some runners due to this postponement.

All the best, SCKLM'13!

Conquering 4 peaks, in 4 weekends of June

It looks like nowadays, most of people are tend to do trail thingy and hiking. For me I think it's fun and it's also good for our nature preservation, as now a lot of development projects may affect this natural areas. We should show them why they can't destroy these areas, by showing that we still lovin' it.

This time, Remy (EFR 11) had a 4 busy weekends of June hiking trails in Selangor and Pahang. Starting with Bukit Tabur, he went up to Bukit Kutu, Pine Tree Hill and Gunung Nuang in a month - June.

He has a team of committed & enthusiast hikers, and still searching for more people to join if interested.
