Finally, 24th of June 2012 came! The day that most of us have been waiting. The moment of truth (in knowing how much we have improved). Standard Chartered KL Marathon or SCKLM for short was here again! It's happening yawwww...
All those preparations, trainings, and new gears will be tested in this RUN!!! Survival of the fittest! Who will prevail? hoho...ok enough of all the dramas. heh. Total number of 14 EFRs joined the run which was touted as the largest running event in Malaysia apart from the Penang Bridge International Marathon. It was reported that 28k runners joined the event (as claimed in one of the local newspaper).
EFR 3 being the most 'semangat' one of all arrived damn early at Dataran Merdeka. EFR 4 and EFR 1 planned to board the free shuttle service earlier but unfortunately they woke up late and missed the buses. Thus they drove there. EFR 5 managed to hop onto the free bus. Meanwhile, at Menara Milenium in Pusat Bandar Damansara, one chap was waiting there patiently while listening to radio staring blankly at mamaks of Ali Maju perhaps. haha. He was none other than EFR 12 who had been kept waiting by EFR 7 who arrived late by 2.5 hours.
In the end, EFR 4 and EFR 19, the latecomers for 21km category started 7-8mins late. Meanwhile, latecomers for 10km category, EFR 12 and EFR 7 started 1 hour late at 8am instead of 7am. Nevertheless, apart from the small 'hiccups' for certain EFRs, everything went fine. The weather was perfect! From EFR 1, EFR 3 and EFR 4 points of view, they definitely enjoyed the half-marathon run. Since there were a lot of people joining SCKLM 2012, not one point along the route you would run alone. Considering this run as the 1st half marathon for the 3 of them, EFR 1 did blazingly unbelievably superbly fast, finishing at 2hrs 13mins. Congrats to him! and also, congrats to 2 of EFRs, EFR 11 & EFR 16 for finishing the full marathon category. Really respect you guys for having that strong will and courage!
Upon finishing the race, all runners would gather at Dataran Merdeka to collect their finisher goodies bags which contain a banana, a can of 100plus and finisher medal. There was live band performances on stage making the event more colourful. There was also not-free massage there provided you pay RM20. haih. Unlike Sundown Marathon 2012 which provided free massages.
All in all, it was a great event, an event that will be remembered by most of the EFRs as they might have clocked their personal best here, ran their first half-marathon here, finished their first full-marathon here, 1st time completing the run with their newly bought minimalist gear or compression tights and so on. Congratulations to all of us and the organiser, Standard Chartered Bank!
